The idea of burning a flag is well-known and not new, but Jesse's take on it was extra potent. He burned a United Nations flag, a United States flag, and a New Hampshire flag simultaneously. And he did it in public...the day before a national election...on the same street-corner as many US-presidential-candidate-supporting sign-holders. |

When Jesse tried to attend the public arraignment of Mike Barskey, he was ordered by the bailiff upon entering the courtroom to remove his hat. He refused and, in a conversation with the judge about it, he stated he had moral reasons for wanting to keep his hat on. |

In the same court and with the same judge that had him arrested about a month previously for not removing his hat, Jesse refused to remove his hat in the court. He presented his constitutional argument to the same bailiffs, who told him he had to remove his hat. Then he told the clerks and they said that the judge demanded Jesse filled out a motion. |
